June 30, 2023SURINAME FISCAL JURISDICTION LAW PUBLISHED
Suriname Parliament on January 30th, 2023 has approved the long-anticipated Law on the Fiscal jurisdiction of Suriname. The law in the meantime has been proclaimed in the National Gazette, under S.B. 2023 no. 19, and has entered into force starting February 1st, 2023.
The Fiscal jurisdiction law actually aims to provide a clear and unambiguous definition of “Suriname’’ for of all currently applicable and future new taxes. For this purpose, “Suriname” henceforth is defined as “the territory of the Republic of Suriname and its territorial waters, as well as the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Continental Shelf, in which Suriname is authorized to perform sovereign rights under international law and the Law on the Maritime Zones, with regard to the exploration and production of natural resources and other commercial activities, with the inclusion of all installations/facilities and other equipment used for these purposes.”
Insofar a taxpayer is not eligible for an exemption, the law among others applies to CIT, PIT, Wage Tax/SSC, VAT, Stamp duty, Import duties and Statistic and consent fee.
